BOINC and Public Universities

Post: I think that the main concern for public schools and uni's is bandwidth. At SCU in Australia there are approx 10,000 computers. If all of them were running BOINC then this would equate to a large chunk of net traffic and bandwidth. Could get expensive. Secondly, each staff member and student has their own profile and as such when they logoff their profile is then reset to a default thus problems for BOINC. Could be interesting though if Uni's got behind these projects. Cheers Peter |

WU Hoarding

Post: It seems to be a fact that some people tend to hoard WU's for this project. This is a shame as it not only stops the work from being spread around all available computers as they finish the current WU but it slows down the flow of results back to the LHC. This means that they wait longer for the results thus not creating new work sooner. This to me seems counterproductive. Well thats my 2 cent's worth, what are your feelings? |
