I really don't understand why people have so much trouble with it.

Thank you Ver Greeneyes for that nice responce. It would be so much simpler if others could understand the concept, " Matter can neither be created or destroyed within our Universe, only change can occur." You are right. There simply isn't enough matter to create an event horizon else we would see Black Holes formed from every collapsed star in our galaxy, and even right in front of our nose from those very same collisions that occur from gamma rays. People don't seem to understand how unimaginably small particles really are and that they exist relatively without mass. However imagination seems to be the influence among the uneducated here. Remember the "WAR OF THE WORLDS" radio broadcast, October 30th 1938, that caused panic and suicide? I wish we could educate people like Walter Wagner, but I'm afraid his influences are rooted deep in the mind's imagination. And what are people going to do when 12-21-2012 passes and nothing happens. Will they allow another imagined Extinction Level Event to cause them panic and fear over nothing but the "Human Imagination"?

But not so much the thread as the ignorant PETHetic people that started this crazy idea. What about the TEVATRON. Just because it's so hush, hush, nobody's complaining about their particle punishment. Who knows they may have already found Higg's the particle, and produced subatomic black holes (theory) and proved PETH is full of PETH. (Educated Opinion)

So this bird is sent back in time to bomb your car, too. Maybe he missed his intended target the LHC. But the real question is who has this technology to send pigeon bombs from the future, and what about a PARADOX? The very fact that someone sent a bird back to do the dirty work of sabotage means that sometime in our future the LHC experiments were(are) successful. Otherwise why send a sabateur to prevent something that never occured? Maybe the Higgs boson is actually discovered somewhere else.

tullio, I would rather be in Italy and miss FlashFoward than be stuck here in Arizona,USA. About 35 years ago when I was young and skinny, I had the chance to travel with an elite choir to Wein, Austria. We performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra live on television at the Wein Opera House as it was being broadcast around the world. Our chorus was combined with students from the worlds top 3 performing choral groups and we having come from a high school choir in Texas. Our performances would be followed by 10 minutes of standing ovations by the worlds greatest directors everywhere we sang.
But Ill never forget the land and the people that lived in that part of the world. So pleasant and with history. It must be wonderful to live in Italy. And you are so close to the LHC. I am jealous but happy to find such interesting people on this site.

A bird dropping a piece of bread onto outdoor machinery has been blamed for a technical fault at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) this week which saw significant overheating in sections of the mighty particle-punishers subterranean 27-km supercooled magnetic doughnut.

According to scientists at the project, had the LHC been operational - it is scheduled to recommence beaming later this month - the snag would have caused it to fail safe and shut down automatically.

The Register tells the rest of the story.

Apparently some of that information is highly classified. We wouldnt want a group of misfits to try to abuse the new information for their own profit. Best I can tell is that FlashForward is based on the abuse of a newly discovered particle that allows this sinister coalition to terrorise society and reign in its own agenda.

I just noticed a few posts regarding this elsewhere, so I guess it\'s just a question of waiting for the project to get started.

Thanks.

Welcome aboard Peter!
Most of us are just waiting to be a part of a highly antisipated science project that can tell us more about our Universe than ever known before. Although most of us are not directly involved with the LHC at CERN, we enjoy in hypothetical discussions of events related to failures that have occured to the promises of discoveries that can bring mankind new energies and new methods of bringing food to our tables. The sky is the limit, so if you want to share your thoughts, hopes, and or visions of how this experiment will effect our lives then you are at the right place. Most of us are just antisipating the launch of particles in the LHC again.
It's amazing whow something so small can be so significant and fascinating.

I believe these next few months will be exciting. The data runs on the GRID must be preparatory for the real stuff. I\'m sure they want to see how, \"We the virtually most powerful data crunching source.\", performs with fake data first and then send us the true data. VirtualBox by Sun sounds interesting too. But now I gotta go SCARE SOME KIDS!

tullio, I am so sorry you can't receive the video stream. I had no idea it was a USA feed only. I was really hopeing you would get the chance to see these episodes because by your writings I can see your interest in the show Flashforward. It would have been nice of them to inform us of the conditions of service. If I ever find a way to get around that glitch, you'll be the first person I'll tell.

Particles in the LHC in no way relates to getting work here...

Yes but activity in the LHC is very exciting too. As data is produced they will eventually look to us for CPU power. After all, we are the super computer by our Boinc accounts and they will be recieving massive amounts of data to sort out which creates need. And need is where we come in!

Another interesting article, this on the CERN official site, linked the LHC to a TV serial called FlashForward where the Higgs boson, once discovered, propels all mankind 21 years in the future for a couple of minutes, then propels them back. So they can see themselves as old people or even dead. Horrible.
Tullio

Did you see last weeks Flashforward? It seems somewhere in China a facility has been built that is like a giant EMP wave production plant, but I believe it would be more like a tachyon burst similar to an EMP except a non ionic partical wave being produced. www.hulu.com is showing all the episodes.

Dr. Who? Well if someone traveled back in time in this Tardis, would he have not destroyed the reason for his trip to the past by sabotaging his own future? But if he came from a parallel universe he would have returned to his own universe as a failure because he would have disrupted our universe and not his. Theory.
