1) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Can't Add Resource Shares to Preferences (Message 19194)
Posted 10 Mar 2008 by m.mitch
Post:
I tried to add additional resource shares to the local LHC preferences for work, school and home to the default.

But it returned an error:
Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string in /srv/httpd/lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/html/inc/util.inc on line 341

Anyone have any idea how to fix or work around this problem?

BOINC@AUSTRALIA needs help crunching extra science crunched in LHC.

The Large Hadron Collider was on Catalyst on the ABC last Thursday night at 8:30PM and I hope you've popped in for a look and to check out some Australian teams.

We are in tenth place in the world but other teams are starting to match and even exceed our growth. Please help us make a major contribution to science.

You can click the hyperlink to join LHC as a team member of BOINC@AUSTRALIA. We'd be very glad to have you join our team and our very friendly forum.

By any measure Aussie Assault 9 (AA9) on QMC has been a fantastic success!!

Even though AA9 is officially over, the team has just passed 10 million credits in QMC, the last 5 million all in the last 18 days. That is an enormous amount of science crunched.

The team's daily output should have started winding down to about double its pre-AA levels, about 50,000 a day, but we are still seeing around 250,000 a day. Not to bad for QMC.

It should start to drop in the next week or so but the project has caught the interest of many BOINC@AUSTRALIA members. That's another great side affect of the AA's.

The next event starts on 1 December 2007.

Yes we are still working on the transition here but if there were work units to be done they would be up and you would be crunching them. The users who generate the jobs are working on a bunch more but they are not ready yet.

Thanks, but...
It would be nice to see the 1.6.2007 home page updated more often.

You may understand this, but just in case you or others don't, 1.6.2007 in the context of how dates are handled in UK / Europe means June 1, 2007, not January 6, 2007.

I thought dd/mm/yy was the world standard just not the American World Stanadrd.

Not yet Alex,
4/07/2007 2:40:31 AM|lhcathometest|When convenient, detach this project, then reattach to http://lhcathometest.cern.ch/lhcathometest/

4/7/07 2:40 GMT -10, 3/7/07 16:40 GMT Although detaching and reattaching fixed it on one PC.

Cheers,

Time for a quick update.

  • We are now placed 27th in the world.
  • We now have more than 62 Million credits - That's even more science!
  • We're still looking for more members!

BOINC@Australia is still after a top 25 place, very soon.

You can check out our web site by clicking on the team logo below and also have a look around our forum. You can join by clicking on the "Join.." hyperlink and follow the prompts. You can ask for assistance in the forum too.

Join us on our next "Aussie Assault". You really wont believe how much fun they are, and how addictive, until you been through the crunching frenzy.

There's a screensaver?! :o

Duh, it's one of the reasons I like this project. Link to BOINC Wiki

I think Mike was teasing you, PA :)

Maybe he was >_<

I think he was. ;-)

It's been so long since I used the screensaver, I don't remember what it looks like or if it's ever been on.

I was hoping that had something to do with all the pending results still showing up. :-( Maybe not. Can't complain though, I only have about 50. This bloke has 216!! That's about 1,080 rows still filling up the database form a fault in one user's part of the project.

Hallo Sysfried and LHC volunteers,

We are alive indeed, and yesterday and today we met at CERN with the Queen Mary College staff members who will be taking over the system administration and operation of the LHC@home server.

They will introduce themselves shortly to all our volunteers and let you know the timeline of the server move as planning proceeds.

Ben Segal / LHC@home

Thanks Ben,
Your update is most welcome. By the way, you even manged a star placing in a team fora for this. :-D

(1) set the cache to 2 hours. (1 day/12 hours = 0.0833333333333333333333333333333333334) It fits.
....

Why 2 hours instead of say 70 minutes? (.05)

The cache could be set to 3 hours (1 day / 8 hours = 0.125)

Between 0.083.... and .125 is 0.1, the default setting. It does just fine. ;-)
I was shocked that so many decimals places showed up on the other platforms, I thought it would have been truncated at about four.

Here's the thing, okay. It's not a secret. Everyone outside the USoA knows America is cultivating it's own language. Let's just get it done and move on. Struth! (In Merikan, read shoot! In French, zoot! And so on). :-P 8-)

Got NO LHC work at all.

Why - Well I think it was because - After months of being on 24/7, I decided to switch off while I was away on holiday this last week.

Bloody typical - All that work and I missed it.

Colin, here are my two rules to give anyone the best chance at getting work units from any project:

(1) set the cache to 2 hours. (1 day/12 hours = 0.0833333333333333333333333333333333334) It fits.
(2) leave the PC's attached to the project.

This way, you're banging on the project door every 2 hours and saying, "Are we there yet?" ;-)

The response is binary!

Hi Mike!

HMS Cerberus doesn't show up in a Google search unless you include the 'HMS'
Fascinating story, though! Is it visible at low tide?

HMVS Cerberus - His Majesty's Victorian Ship Cerberus. Pre-Federation Battleship - Non dreadnought. I know it's there, I've divied in and around it. ;-)
