I can't get new work... Anyone?

I've two machines, cruching SETI (100), Einstein (100) & LHC (100). Both have huge negative long term debt, but won't download any units, after crunching merrily since Saturday. Is there a download limit on units or is something else going on?

I had read of someone suggest that you leave the app in memory when running the CPDN project, as there is a chance it may not checkpoint within the std one hour period.

I'm not sure if this is an LHC, Seti or general BOINC question.

I am subscribed to LHC (100), Seti (100), Einstein (100) & CPDN (50). Cache is set to six days

Current status;
6 Seti units that won't upload, my CPDN is ticking over nicely, Einstein downloads abpout 6 units a week, runs them exclusively and then gets no more for about another week. No LHC units in progress and it won't request more. When I suspended my CPDN it downloaded one and then said 'Suspending work fetch because computer is overcommitted'. It is trying to request 514800s of work from Seti.

What gives? Why won't my machine download more LHC units?

Slainte,

David

I guess we are all getting these failed downloads, I've got ten of this machine alone.

Within my 'Work' tab I am seeing about ten of these units with a status of 'Download failed' - do I delete them or let Boinc clean them up itself.

From what I understood about the process CERN is using, they release a whole lot of units and then, analyse those results in order to decide on what type of units with whatever parameters, to send out next. So the whole thing does tend to go along in fits 'n' starts.

Nothing for days, I thought it was dead until next year, and I just got onne protwelve unit on one of my machines, bizarre, huh?

Could someone repost the screen grab of the Einstein@Home screensaver as the image either is corrupt or I just can't get to it...
15) Message boards : Number crunching : Reset (detach) from LHC
Message 4881

Is it best to detach from the LHC@home project once the project dries up in mid November and the reattach when it comes back online in December/ January?

The reason I ask is that the client seems to want to attach on a pretty regular basis while online, especially if it doesn't have any work to process. Is there a possibility that this will detract from the processing of other projects or put a needless load on the LHC@home webserver while it puts out 'no work available' messages?

Is there a method within the Boinc framework that allows them to tell clients to not attach for a specfic period?

Slainte,

David

Thanks for the info. The graphics are very pretty though. The courier/ X-files font is a nice touch

Does anyone know if the graphics show while processing an LHC@Home unit are in any way respresetative of the unit?

I know that, or at least assume that, the SETI@Home graphics in some way represent the work unit I'm processing, similarly with climateprediction.net.

I was just wondering.

David
