Part of the same issue that VirtualBox isn't working I think

You can run Virtualbox as the boinc user to see if there is some stale disks or it even loads

sudo -u boinc VirtualBox

The additions are in the VM so you don't need to install them.
I assume the error is that they are the wrong version since the VM disk is older.

You have this error

Sudo-Version must be at least 1.9.10.

I do this to grant boinc service full access

sudo systemctl stop boinc-client
sudo systemctl edit boinc-client.service

add in ProtectSystem=full

Save the service

sudo systemctl start boinc-client

The CPU should according to Intel ARC

At the bottom you can see VT-x is Yes

I think someone said you need to switch off the "Memory Integrity"

It should not run more WUs that you have cores, so I'm not sure, it could be you set something with app_config.xml?

It can be that the WUs don't use any CPU power as the VM has nothing to do inside the WU, I personally find this to be not so common, you can leave them and they clear out eventually, this the best as it sends the feeback to the project that they should do something, although it bothers me that my computer are not busy. Else as you have done just abort them typically the new WU gets some work.

This setting doesn't work so well for LHC:

2023-10-25 15:14:28 (9812): Setting CPU throttle for VM. (90%). Becuase the VMs don't like the cycling of pause/run.

its better to use use at most 75% of the cpus if you want to limit the max overal CPU use and keep the at most of time at 100%

it could be you have some invalid VMs left over so shutdown BOINC and clean everything out from VirtualBox.

If you want to see whats happening in the VM then you can install the extrsion pack

They normally run for about 24 hours

On the development system we tested the new application with much lower memory and it was working fine even with 3000MB RAM,
but here for safety it is set to 4000MB.

Its because of the project is designed and operated cf https://lhcathome.web.cern.ch/about/how-it-works

The BOINC job creation is indapendent of the CernVM Co-Pilot job creation.

Our observation is that many BOINC jobs fail, the BOINC jobs are automatically created regardless of if there is Co-Pilot jobs, so the BOINC server tries to maintain say 1000 unsent BOINC jobs.

As CM said if there is no Co-Pilot jobs then BOINC spins up the VM on our computers if nothing happens for 10 min then the BOINC task is failed as nothing happened, the BOINC server takes this back and make a new one to maintain the 1000 unsent requirement.

This is different to how other BOINC projects work as there the BOINC jobs are created by the scientist so all work is BOINC work.

The reason why they are indapendent was because the team as CERN did not want to bother the CERN scientist with creating BOINC jobs, they use the regular internal tools and if its process internally to CERN or by us is transparent to the CERN scientists.

I guess that Ivan could switch on and off the BOINC job creation but he doesn't seem to have access to this infrasturcture so its not so easy to toggle on and off.

You want to run native Linux tasks? Its quite complex from what I understand, I just use VM version so I can run CMS and not just ATLAS.
