hey all, I answered a question for NiftyPig over at the seti board and this was part of his/her reply:

it's my son who runs it at 12 yrs old
it started with LHC who told him to grow up and stop bothering people with such problems
over here at seti people seem much more agreable

I informed them that the comments were NOT from LHC admin but regular old users. I'm not sure it LHC will ever see them again. It was their first post to LHC and feel they got jumped on.

Keep crunching

so basically, we can either run Lhc all by itself or NOT run Lhc at all. Why are they even a Boinc project if they don't want to share with others (cpu time).

sorry, I know they're working on it, sometimes it gets so frustrating. Wanting to help a project, but not being able to.

This still doesn't account for the 1 hour and 40 min of run time being displayed as 1 minute and change. Now CPU time is up to 02:28:58. it's advanced 16 seconds in the last 25 minutes. This specific WU is Vboince6ib1-15s4-6645-1 6vf-2803_2

thanks for your reply

Why me,,,,oh, why me.

on the 9th, four days ago, I finally got to download some WUs (8). Like normal I didn't watch them, and just let them do there things. three days later (yesterday) I notice I still have 8 of them. 7 ready to run and one running. These were Boinc 4.64 units on boinc 4.27. The one that was running was only at 02:26:15 CPU time. I kept an eye on it and It'd reset to zero each time it restarted. I have my switch between projects set to 120 min. I ended up Aborting them all.

Yesterday I downloaded eight more WUs, this time they are 4.67. I've been sort of watching them yesterday. This morning 0642 EST I noticed the first one had 02:27:03 CPU time and 12:01:33 to completion. I "Suspended" all other projects in Boinc CC 4.30. It's now 8:22 am EST (1 hr 40 min elapsed) and the CPU time says "02:28:42" and the "to comp" says 11:56:54.

The other projects crunch just fine.

What's going on?????? Is the clock "Days/hours/Min", instead of the regular?

give us Dial uppers a break.

LHC crew:"the forum people are complaining again."
LHC admin: "Ok, Let's make the forum people happy. Let's break free 6 Wu's, that should make them happy."
LHC crew: "Sounds good boss."

LOL

My Uncle dies and I'm not here for a couple hours, they release work, I try to get a little sleep, they release work. Hmmm, are they watching me??? (looking out window).

Let me do the math......... 4 weeks.......0 Wu's....... 0.00 credit

4 weeks X 0 wu/week X 0.00 credit/wu=0

Yup that might do it.

That probably only happened because I shut down my PIII 500 3 weeks ago. I better drive to South Carolina and fire that bad boy back up.

Alex, you might wanna reread the thread I did in the Seti forums. I did another re-examine of my results and looked specifically at the number of days seti had to send out a WU until a successful result was obtained.

Perhaps the Zero Credit problem is related to the way the WU itself is prepared?

Yep, I'm complaining, but not without some reason.

I love what you said Logan5.

Let's take a ride on the Way Back machine.
March 10 2005 (Thursday). I sign on to report and get more work (yep, dial up user here). I can't get more work. HMMM I think to myself. I look at the front page for news and there it is "9.3.2005 16:30 UTC
Bug fixing and testing will continue until next week.
In the mean time there will be very little work available. "
Hmmm, It's Thursday and there won't be any work till next week. OK so I don't have to click on the "Update" button for LHC till next week. That'll save me some seconds. I think "Thanks for the news".

This is where things go black on the news front. The whole next week go by with no work and no news. Then on Tuesday the week after I see the news:22.3.2005 09:45 UTC
More time will be required to improve the code and to fix the bugs. For the time being, there will be very little work available. At the same time, physicists are analyzing the earlier results. "

OK now it's the end of the month where's the news?

I'd have prefered the following:
3/8/05 we'll be taking the project down for what we hope won't be longer than a week to try to fix the zero credit bug.

3/14/05 this nasty bug is proving harder to find than we thought. We have Jim and Barb working on it. But since it'll be down atleast 7 days, we're going to have the physicists examine the data as we'll.

3/21/05 we're having to call in the big guns on the bugs and it'll be another week. thanks for your patience.

3/28/05 We're almost there. Barb and Jim shot eachother over a disagreement about the new horizontal lefthanded Huffzininger they were installing. Thanks for your patience.

Something like this would sooth my soul.

I'm not sure how I got this impression. But when LHC went down I was under the impression it would last over the ONE weekend and possibly into the next week. I haven't really been paying to much attention to the day to day events at LHC or the LHC boards. Wasn't that around the first week of March?

It's still down so something much more serious must be going on. If so, where's the news to keep us informed? Are they trying to fix the Zero credit WUs? What else are they trying to fix? Where's the news? This reminds me of when they were going to start up "Shortly" and it ended up being months. Months without news.

Am I starting to see a pattern? A pattern where we're being taken for granted.

I'd like to think I'm a patient man, a reasonable man, a man of reflection. I'd still like some news, some predictions, some kinda update.

This is a known Application Bug. not a Boinc Bug. If you also run Einstein you'll notice that this bug doesn't occur with Einstein. Removing from memory will fix it for Seti and LHC.

hope this helps

When seti brought the new server online. Matt lebofsky stated that the new server was handling the 250K results/day handily. He also stated that it was Setis' goal/plan to get the new servers to handle 1M results/day. that is max for the new server. (I'm not sure if that's max with the current config or with all the extra CPU and Ram slots filled)

at that time we had 71k hosts attached. If we bring onboard the 270K hosts from seti classic than we'll reach the goal/plan handily.

I wonder how they plan on running AP when the server is maxed out with seti units alone? They'll have to bring on new hardware or reduce the 1M seti results/day plan. Change it to say 750K seti and 250K AP/day.

I haven't seen this problem. Perhaps you should check out Paul Bucks' Website. He has answers for just about everything. LOL
