That means that a 3 meter long steel rail cooled down to -250 Celsius would shrink 250x3\\100 = 7.5 mm. How come that these magnets shrinks so much as 200 mm?

Well the magnets are not made of steel used for building rails. They are made of different materials like maybe Alnico & a combination of many other alloys - each having their own expansion coefficinets, so you see the difference.

Well there really are very little workload units available for the LHC project, look at this thread

As far as I see things, the LHC project Sixtrack was meant for primarily designing the LHC. So as that\'s done already, one really can't expect any fresh workload units. However Sixtrack is also used for finetuning & tweaking the LHC magnets for example, and since a lot of that will be done in the coming winter - you can expect fresh workload units coming your way.

That said, always be ready to go without any work on this project for days 'nd maybe months at a stretch - such is the type of this project cuz all the REAL data that the LHC shall produce (15 petabytes anually) will be crunched by far more mighter machines than your standard home PC. Maybe things might change if the LHC guys decide to port any fresh software to BIONIC - which for example could be used to process data form ATLAS or CMS, possibly using CUDA power of a Gfx card (just an exotic thought). btw, has anyone seen the program Garfield in action ?

Still though, if you are hellbent on getting WUs, keep checking this Scarecrow graph to find an approx. timespan everyday when WUs are released. I think they do so inbetween 2:00 - 10:00 UTC everyday. Also keep checking the LHC Server Status - if it says out of work (which it says most of the time) - then you won't get any tasks.
