Posted 16 Oct 2011 by Filipe Post: Sixtrack will always be an on and off project. There will always be long spells of no work. The reason is this project finishes the computations needed for a particular LHC configuration and then there is nothing to do until LHC scientists change the configuration. One of the reasons this project has work now is because in the not too distant future they are going to upgrade the LHC and change the configuration. Well. Eric has said is working on an Mac and may be on a GPU apllication for next year. So i hope/believe we have work for a few months at least. Since the project has been moved to the CERN have we not already acomplish more work than what we have done in the last years? |

Posted 15 Oct 2011 by Filipe Post: Just have been reissued! now that the "task ready to send" are runnig low. But with this Lifo Configuration, that´s a long and unnecessary wait for the scientists. If this tasks had a FIFO sonfiguration, the older batch wolud terminate faster. I think if it was LIFO we would receive tasks created now followed by tasks created earlier, then tasks created now followed by tasks created earlier, with that pattern repeating. I think they're being ignored. It will be interesting to see what happens when the batch nears the end and then runs down to zero tasks. |

Posted 6 Oct 2011 by Filipe Post: Don´t send jobs to the slower computers. I have an amd sempron wich is quite slow. And there is a lot of slow pentium 4 out there. An application for Gpu would also increase the computing power availiable to the project. And limit 1 wu/cpu. It will reduce the time the results take to go back to your servers. |
