OK just to add we have it sorted that we can get this fixed quicker if it happens again but it shouldn't as we've solved the problem.

When, exactly, did you solve the problem?

I think that HomeGnome is gender confused.

The woman in the avatar wasn't me, but it was someone else.
I think.

You found my typo! Dear lord, I thought I had made it small and inconspiciuous... :-)

BTW, I have a genetic disorder too, the effects of which I do not wish to burden you with, but it's probably not related to my use of water pistols. I think.

DNA , NRA means dezoxiribonucleicacid and ribonucleicacid

DNA is short for deoxyribonucleic acid.

NRA stands for, amongst other things, National Rifle Associaton.

For the record.

Too bad, he missed this:

Up, 64184 workunits to crunch

If you're gonna miss out, at least you should miss out big...

So, apart from those two reasons, did anyone else miss out this time?

River~~

I missed out, mostly because my processor died :-/

It didn't happen to me. But I wouldn't mind an extra machine :-) (if only it was a real one and not some bug in the server...)

But, Fuzzy, look at it from the bright side: you actually got some work! And I hope for your sake you got more than one unit, 'cause I know what a pain it is to constantly miss out.

Happy crunching!

So Garfield is on its way, but are there other applications waiting further ahead? And when LHC finally starts producing huge amounts of data, will they be needing us (currently some 72000+ comps) to help with the data analysis, or will that be done completely "in-house"?

Geant4 has been ported to the BOINC platform, but there are issues with the amount of data needed by the application (up to 1Gb).

OK, that's a lot :-) Probably needs plenty of RAM...

Once the collider starts operating the amount of data produced continuously for ten years will be truly colossal (10 petabytes per annum) - way beyond the capacity of most (if not all) PCs. The processing will be done around the world, but on mightier machines than the average cruncher can offer.

I hear you, but I like the idea that we could help out in some way. My humble computer isn't the fastest around, but it's available as long as they need it (or as long as I can afford to pay for my Internet connection...).

Post:
The server status box on the front page tells us the project is "low on work". What does this mean? Does it mean

"Some workunits left, hurry hurry! 10, 9, 8,..."

or maybe:

"Temporarily out of work, but more is coming soon"

or does it mean the usual (my favourite):

"Out of work, but we may have some more in six months, in case we haven't forgotten about the project."
