3) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Cannot upload new avatar (Message 17751)
Posted 7 Aug 2007 by paperdragon
Post:
I found that you have to remember to select "Use this avatar". You can leave the input box blank, in which case it uses the one already downloaded. But if you forget to change "Use this avater" button, you lose you current one.

Maybe the default avater select could be chnaged?

I have BOINC manager 5.4.9, and on the projects tab, in the left hand tool bar is a 'Detach' button. It is the last button of the 'Commands' box.

If you have BOINC manager opened as a window, and not in full screen mode, you may have to scroll the tool area to see it; or just expand to full screen.
5) Questions and Answers : Preferences : which url for lhc@home (Message 15475)
Posted 16 Nov 2006 by paperdragon
Post:
Using Boinc I tried to paricipate lhc@home,
when using the boinc project manager the url
http://lhcathome.cern.ch/
gives me the answer to check the url.

What would be the correct url for this project?

That URL works for me.

Maybe you are having a firewall issue. Have you given the progams BOINC.exe and BOINCmgr.exe permission to your firewall?

information on what the daemon is can be found in the wiki:

------

Since the LHC@home is temperarily not submitting workunits maybe you can get more help from the BOINC forums.
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev

Another place to check might be the seti@home forums, since there is a large userbase there.
8) Questions and Answers : Getting started : New computer ID created on each connect (Message 14553)
Posted 15 Aug 2006 by paperdragon
Post:
This can occur if BOINC can not update the various parameter files for the project. This can happen if the permissions are not set up correctly, like if you installed BOINC as a Admin account, and now trying to run with a user account.

I have just attached to the project without any problems.

If you are cutting an pasteing the account key, make sure there are no spaces, or any other character, before or after the key.

What version of BOINC are you using? I connected using BOINC v4.72.

If you cut and pasted the URL, make sure there are no spaces before or after it.

The URL should be: http://lhcathome.cern.ch

btw is there a project with week's as deathline, that i can run on maschines that only run hours per week ... ?</blockquote>

On a Pentium 3 running at 933 megahetz I can do a predictor unit in 1 hour 15 minutes. So that might be your best bet, if BOINC is running 100% of the time that the machines are on. Predictor web site: http://predictor1.scripps.edu/

But since Predictor only has a seven day deadline, if you are only turning the machines on one day a week, then even this one would not work.
