No, there is no graceful shutdown and no time limit of 18 hours. That is a bit inconvenient for the average cruncher, to put it charitably. Is that on the to-do list to be fixed? |

The task is set to use 2 CPUs by default and barely over 1 is used and the reported time has run time = exactly CPU time. To the second on every task. At most I see 1.5 cores when the task is really short. 6min run time, 8 min CPU time.Don't trust the values reported in the results, specially when they are equal. I am looking at BOINCTasks history for the correct run/CPU times. And my statement is still true. At BEST 1.5 threads used but average is like 1.1 threads per task. I set it use 1 per task with app_config so the CPU would be fully used. |

I was trying to install cvmfs just now on a couple of machines. But it's failing. Did something break? I went through all the same steps that made it work earlier. So then I looked again at the messages during the steps, and I think this may be the problem: $ wget https://ecsft.cern.ch/dist/cvmfs/cvmfs-release/cvmfs-release-latest_all.deb |

Took me some fits and starts to set up on my small set of 5 computers. Looks to be working on at least some of them now, but I've had several failed tasks and it looks like my machines are being throttled to 1 task a day. I'm assuming as I start completing tasks without error, that throttling will gradually resolve itself? By the way, boinc is a 'fire and forget' thing for me, I'm glad someone thought to reach out over email and let me know. I wouldn't have noticed for a long time. I didn't even know native apps without virtualbox were an option (edit: and atlas too!)! I'm gleefully removing virtualbox from all my systems now... |

cvmfs-release-latest_all.deb: Permission denied Missing write access. Check the local folder you are currently in when you run wget. |

... boinc is a 'fire and forget' thing for me, ... Clearly not recommended for beta apps like this. One of the reasons to strictly limit the # of sent tasks. |

Missing write access. I tried it again with sudo, and the "Permission denied" was resolved. So thanks for that. Although I am not sure why this is an issue when it wasn't before. Doing all the same steps from the same directory. Then I went through all the same steps. However, still getting the cvmfs_config probe failed status. Edit: So I went through all the same steps again, and now it's working. Not sure why. Nothing changed. I know this for sure, because I didn't re-type the commands, or even re-copy/paste them. I just used "!34, !35, etc" from the history log, through the steps. Frustrating. But at least resolved. |

At most I see 1.5 cores when the task is really short. 6min run time, 8 min CPU time.Don't trust the values reported in the results, specially when they are equal. I had the same problem. I traced the cause to an error in my app_config.xml. Maybe you made the same error I did? To avoid adding "noise" to this thread I posted a proper block for native Theory in a separate thread at https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=4975 |

I see that the maximum runtime of last 100 tasks is 25.06 hours. Would be interesting to know what job and result-id it was. |

No result so far. Sherpa 1.4.3 for now 25 hours running and hoping to get a good end therefore. runRivet.log is growing every minute (255Kbyte) nevts=1.000. Let you know for the result. |

No result so far. Sherpa 1.4.3 for now 25 hours running and hoping to get a good end therefore. Yes, I understand. Sherpa has earned a bad reputation perhaps unfairly. Maybe it just needs more time than it is allowed in the VBox tasks. I will repeat your test next time I get a sherpa. Thank you for pointing the right direction :) Go, sherpa, go!! |

No result so far. Sherpa 1.4.3 for now 25 hours running and hoping to get a good end therefore.2515 Minutes runtime, Bronco! With only 1000 events it's hard to say, whether there is any progress. Did you see any ... events processed or is it still in integration phase? What is the first line of runRivet.log? Maybe it's one of the endless runners. I have a long sherpa runner, but it has progress. 7800 out of 13000 events done. Sherpa.exe running now 755 minutes and it survived an overnight sleep (closing VM with saving the machine state). |

The machine I set up to run Theory Native keeps failing them with 14:14:26 2019-03-21: cranky-0.0.28: [INFO] Running Container 'runc'.The machine I didn't set up to run Theory Native (apart from updating CVMFS to keep all machines consistent) somehow managed to get hold of some and run them quite happily: so far it's completed a pythia6, a pythia8, a herwig++ ... and a Sherpa! (albeit sherpa 1.4.2, CPU time 22 hours 1 min 57 sec) Somehow I think they're trying to tell me something. :( |
