Message 32478 - Posted: 20 Sep 2017, 8:04:31 UTC

I am trying to submit new work, but there seems to be a network/AFS/CERN
service problem. More work as soon as possible.

Work has been pulled because of some of it was incorrect due to changes
required by the new SixTrack executable in the BEAM block of fort.3 input.
The tasks I know about all had names beginning Jone.....but that was only
about 3,500 and I deleted the WUs.

More news soonest. Eric.

Cool, how about some more? Perhaps enough so you have a reasonable backlog?
Thanks

I am trying but the CERN file system keeps killing my procedures! Eric.

Well, I have painfully managed to download all existing results
and I am now submitting more work as best I can.

The new executables look very good from the CERN side, but since
Invalid and other failed results are now deleted I have a problem in
analysing these errors since the results never reach me.

I shall be trying to use the validator log in the meantime.
Shame as the new execs return the stderr which is a big help.

Eric.

I'll try and find out. I'll be putting more work but I need to sort out
the new procedures for running specific cases and for getting
back all the result files before running more and longer cases.
Hopefully only a few days.
Eric.

If you have Virtualbox installed there is work for (Atlas, CMS and Theory) so long.

I have the latest virtualbox installed, but I always only get

No tasks are available for SixTrack Simulation
No tasks are available for CMS Simulation
No tasks are available for LHCb Simulation
No tasks are available for Theory Simulation
No tasks are available for ATLAS Simulation
No tasks are available for ALICE Simulation

Despite server status showing 1000s of tasks available.

Since ATLAS has moved into LHC, things have worked crazy, and admins are posting sort of weird messages over to the clients. Well, keep the good work out there, who can.

This thread is for sixtrack only.

Pavel, see Yeti's checklist in Atlas-Forum for further information.

Scroll down on server status page to see Tasks by application.

Thanks for reply, yes, I am also on Sixtrack.
Without any intervention on my side, the client started to get tasks from LHC@Home (yes, sixtrack tasks) after some days. It seems that the server makes a decision whether to send a task to a particular client not only based on the server status task availability, but also based on some estimation it makes about the client expected return. However, the message reported in the client log would be misleading in that case as it says "No tasks are available for SixTrack", but clearly the server status lists thousands of unsent tasks. The message probably should say "No tasks are available for SixTrack to be sent to you, we spare them for other clients." or whatever like that. But who knows.

I like this project but its frustrating trying to improve your rank when it seems near impossible to get a constant supply of 6track WU's.

Shame there's no badge system for sixtrack either.
