yeah
well. ik know ... but its taking so long
And worse, not a word from someone about when, how or when we can expect to see some improvements.
And sure, someone is doing some fixing but as far as i can see only when something is crashing.
Its so frustrating to see a good project as LHC suffer like this.

I share the feeling of frustration. But we are not going to get good service from the incoming people if the first thing they see is a lot of complaints about how long they took to get here, and about stuff that happened before they were in post.

I stood in the rain for two hours waitng for a bus once, on an "every 20 mins" service. Gave the driver a right mouthful when he finally came. He then told me it was his day off - there was some crisis at the depot and he'd been called in at short notice and here was me bXXXXXXing him for his efforts. My response had been entirely understandable but also totally unhelpful.

ok
but that was only for 1 day
what would you do when that is happening everyday for oh say 2 months in a row.

then you're happy to see a bus once in a while. You will thank him for comming but you will be asking the driver who the hell you have to speak to make see a bus every day.

Then you hear that the company has taken a smart move and outsourced the service to a third party. You think he, sounds good. But what happens next... the same old story. The bus is stil not arriving after a few weeks.

Any news on the stats issue? I know, I know, not many admins and ppl around for the project, but it's just hard to have some work units again after a long, long time, but then no stats export to show them.

Well, this is the first step - the db_dump.xml describes what the stat-files are containing.

Yes, it is encouraging that this has appeared, and yes also it is the other files that are needed as well. To see what is expected, just add /stats/ after almost any other BOINC project url.

The most useful thing about looking at this directory (once stats are being exported) is that the modified date time on the big files gives a good indication of when the stats were last prepared for export (the actual time wil be slightly before of course, due to the time taken to actually do it)

A totally trivial variation I have noticed is that some projects seem to re-write the db_dump file every time they export (eg Rosetta), others seem to leave it alone and just re-write the big files (eg Leiden).

So I was right then its not QMC at all its QMUL (Queen Mary University of London)

Strangely, most people I know still refer to it as "QMW" (Queen Mary and Westfield College) - the marketeers seem to have been editing history again...

I tried to fix the problem. Stats should be online within 24 hours.

@@@@@@ Chrulle.
If you want help fixing this stats feed problem do call. I am a BOINC project owner and admin and might be able to connect and sort this if you would like? Mail the projects list at boinc if you want me to give a hand or gte my email from there.

FYI, Chrulle left some time ago. He was back in Geneva for a conference recently and had another go at the stats issue, but had to get on the plane home before we all noticed his "fix" had missed the target. Instead of Chrulle being replaced by CERN, responsibility for admin of this project is being passed to GridPP, probably to someone based at QMUL in East London (also known as QMW or QMC).

Perhaps incoming admins (when GridPP appoint some) will take you up on your generous offer, but please don't be offended by any delay as the person with long term responsibility for LHC@home is not yet appointed (sfaik).

Sorry about all the Aborted units, my P4 2.4 (SLOW) downloaded 60 units that had an estimated time of 0:02:30, way short of the 3 to 4 hours that they take. Would not have been able to do them. Well at least others can pick them up now to run.

Thanks that was a thoughtful thing to do (I wish others who overfill their cache would do the same). At the same time, it would be better still to just do it - in my opinion it doesn't need a posting as well.

In my opinion apologies are for things that take human effort to sort out, and are not needed where (as here) you have taken prompt and responsible action to put things right and where (as here) the machines will handle the rest without human intervention. The scheduler will have redistributed that work within minutes of you returning it, and even if Chrulle was still with us he would not have needed to know.

I'd like to comment about what happened to you, but we are already off topic so I am starting a new thread.

The topic here is that the stats folder is empty ... many people from different teams keep asking for the stats to be updated on individual team pages. I point them to this thread, which is long reading, but you can get all the info you need:

* upgrade issues still linger

* Chrulle has left the project, he has no immediate replacement

* this project has intermittent work

This is a worthwhile project, however, it requires a patient cruncher. I'm anxious to have the stats updated too. If you see questions about the stats from others, please direct here and spread the education. :)

( ... and let's keep to the topic of the thread as R~~ points out ... )

Anyone able to do a benign hack into the Server to set it to do automatic XML updates? ;-)

Or, to take a less irresponsible approach, anyone know anyone who might know someone who might have something to do with the project's new owners?

Two months on I'd really like to get this fixed.

I'm putting this bit up front because I don't want to be accused of stirring it -
# No messages whose only intention is to annoy or antagonize other people.
# No messages that are deliberately hostile or insulting.

However, I think it is worth pointing out the objective of BOINC and LHC is to further science ... producing stats has little or nothing to do with the science.

OK, I am getting bored with a flatline progress on the BOINC Stats graphics, too, but I can live with it.

If it is vital to the existence of a Team that it's stats need to be updated, well, maybe the team admins should be grabbing individual member stats and summarising them ... just a thought.

For my part, I can and will sit patiently until the new "management" get on top of things - 'till then, I'll grab what WU's are there and process what I can.

That's it, end of whinge

@River^^
Sorry if I've repeated what you said way back but I thought it was worth saying it again - some folk seem to have missed/ignored your wise words.
