Message 12856 - Posted: 24 Feb 2006, 2:55:43 UTC

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to get a somewhat vague question answered.

Are their any similarities between the way strings
in (string theory) are tied down to our universe
membrane and the white magnetic field lines (or sunspots) connected to the suns magnetic carpet?

It is always an honor to learn from all
of you.......

Thank you all
God Bless

Ernie: The link posted above is quite interesting, but it does not speak directly to your question. The short answer to which is no. There is a vague analogic similarity, but that's as far as it goes. We are talking about two very different domains.

God Bless you Sir...........

Well Ernie, with respect to what you call my tactlessness, I fear that my signature is based on a reality that any observation of human history will demonstrate. As for god blessing me...I fear she is far too busy running a vast and complex universe.

You are going to be very surprised sir.........

My 2 cents

I am skeptical of current string theory. Too many problems exist therein. Aside, sunspots would not affect string theories here in a meaningful way. String theories deal with fundamental matter and nature that shouldn't be considered when attempting to understand relatively minor events in the cosmos like sunspots...

Unless I'm missing something....

I have a 3-D picture of a sunspot named "Spotmontage-1" but I
just don't remember the web address. Can someone help me out?

thanks

I found the web page of the 3-D structure I was looking for.
I view this from a beginners perspective.
