Message 5188 - Posted: 17 Nov 2004, 21:01:29 UTC
Last modified: 17 Nov 2004, 21:05:35 UTC

The old LHC@Home Web/file server got ill and is now resting, probably for good. Many other servers here at CERN got unstabile, too. The reason is unknown but we suspect a disturbance in power feed.

LHC@Home runs now with one server only, but that shouldn't be problem because we have very little, if any, new work right now.

If there are some new problems related to the migration of the server, please report them here.

A new high-end server is being installed, we hope to get it online next week.

Thankyou very much for this information.
This is very kind form your part.

There are still user with ready to return work.

As long as there is work, even less, our clients stay with the project and
are ready for LHC work.

Christmas this year earlier?

Wishing all the best/success for managing the migration.

Good to hear. Now that project people are coming back from holidays, we should get system back into business of crunching soon - but it's hard to say how soon.

There is also another server problem.

When opening a page of "Account data" at the bottom of the page comes follwing:

Uploaded and rRep ALL work.
++

Passed to nearly all "public" pages, no error found, all pages could be opened.
++

not so important, guess the "error" was there all the time

http://lhcathome.cern.ch/forum_text_search_form.php
Message search.

put the search string
" "

= chr(34)+chr(10)+chr(34)

it returns:
Messages containing '" "'

No messages found containing '" "'

http://lhcathome.cern.ch/forum_text_search_action.php?search_string=%22+%22&bodies=Search

Every message contains one ore several "spaces"/Leerschlag, distance between words.

With a more valid search string, the querry resp. the answers are ok.

As mentioned not so important and perhaps already there.

I guess there is some check to exclude trivial keywords.

Thanks...

@Markku,

It could be eliminating trivial keywords, but it could also be that the search string it's looking for is DoubleQuote-Space-DoubleQuote. Note that it is "Escaping" the DoubleQuotes, and including them in the search string. I doubt there are many occurances of the DoubleQuote-Space-DoubleQuote string.

BTW, we are still seeing the error Ulrich Metzner told you about earlier in this thread, the "LHC@home - 2004-11-29 16:30:46 - Message from server: Server can't open log file" error. I don't know if that is still a valid error, or just because some of the processes are not running.

Cheers,

Stephen

I suspect that it's a valid error. Since the front page is insisting that the server us up and "low on work" yet I keep getting project-down errors, the log file issue is now a bottleneck. Just a guess, mind you.

Cheers,

trane

I'm getting the same "Project Down" message, even though project is "Up, Low on work", so don't feel alone.

Can't open logfile generally means a disk is out of space or has permissions set wrong on the server. No action is needed on the client side.

Your english is ok!
tried but:

LHC@home - 2004-12-01 09:55:28 - Project LHC@home is in state file but no account file found

so far no official advice, perhaps only a test/trial environment.

Did you get some work ?
